Chesterfield MGOC Shakedown Run to Barrow Hill engine sheds
If you have a question about this website, please email the webmaster at webmaster@gentryregister.org.uk
Could you please send me details of the above run. Thank you
Along the way you will pass a number of significant historic railway and tramway
features, many of which are connected with the life and death of George Stephenson and
we have included some info about them in the roadbook. We have attempted to vary the
route with some faster and slower sections and not too many narrow lanes or awkward
road junctions.
It also passes three fuel stations and a number of cafes (with loos), one even in a
George Stephenson railway station!
The run will start from 9am at the Jolly Farmer public house, Pentland Road,
Dronfield Woodhouse, S18 8ZQ. Tea and coffee vouchers will be provided, and you
can purchase breakfast rolls which do not need to be pre-ordered.
The destination is Barrow Hill Engine Shed where we will have our own dedicated
parking and display area right next to the entrance. We have been promised a
locomotive in the middle of the parking area which should provide everyone with
great photo opportunities. For your £30 entry fee, you will get full admission to the
museum at Barrow Hill Engine Shed which has been opened since the Group’s
previous visit in 2014, in addition to viewing all the locomotives in the shed and the
yard, the visit will include turntable demonstrations and access to the signal box to try pulling the levers. You will also receive
vouchers for a cup of tea or coffee in Barrow Hill’s café where food can be purchased, and the shop will be open.
